Absence Procedures
When a student is absent, they are required to make up any missed class work and homework from that day. The student will be given an extra day to hand in the work.
Classroom Management
Summary of classroom rules / expectations:
Students are expected to be on time for class with materials for FOCUS or AC Math. Students who attend my classes arrive individually unattended by a teacher. They are expected to walk silently on the black line on the right side of the hallway even when transitioning alone.
Consequences for choosing not to comply:
Students who do not complete homework must serve their recess time in study hall in my classroom. When students misbehave in class, I give them a warning. After the first warning, I write in their STAR card and assign them 2 minutes off their recess, during which time they must stand silently along the fence on the playground. Three or more marks in the STAR card for the week, and the students will receive a call home.
Summary of encouragement / reinforcement plan:
Students who are observed following hallway procedures and who come prepared for class will periodically receive STAR bucks for this behavior. Additionally, students who are helpful, respectful, and set a good example will earn a STAR buck when they stand out for exemplary behavior.
Methods used to contact parents regarding behavior problems:
STAR cards are the primary method of communication on a daily/weekly basis. Students who must be spoken to three or more times in a week will receive a call home. Additionally, a call may be made if a student consistently has missing homework or poor performance on classroom assessments. All contact to parents is recorded in a notebook and kept for later reference.
